Kansas Medicare Plans

There are certain periods in which you are able to enroll in Medigap policies or change from Original Medicare to an Advantage plan. One time you can enroll in a Kansas Medigap plan is during your Open Enrollment Period (OEP).

Your OEP is throughout the 6 months after your Part B effective date. If you think you will ever want a Medigap plan, this is the best time to enroll because you do not have to go through medical underwriting. Now that you know when to enroll, let’s talk about why you might want to enroll in a Medigap plan.

Medigap Plans Offered in Kansas

Kansas insurance companies offer all ten standardized Medigap plans that there are. There are three favorite plans in Kansas. Those are Plan F, G, and N. Plan F usually comes in at the highest monthly premium because it offers the most comprehensive coverage.

Plan G comes in second in both aspects. The only thing that Plan G doesn’t cover that Plan F does is your annual Part B deductible of $183. Plan N is another even cheaper standardized plans because it doesn’t cover quite as much as Plan F and G.

Medigap plans are a good thing to consider for multiple reasons, but one in particular reason is if you endure a lot of medical expenses. Such as, hospital stays, doctor visits, and surgeries, just to name a few. One thing to keep in mind, is if you and your spouse are both thinking about having a Medigap plan, you both will need to enroll in separate plans. Medigap plans only cover one person.

Medicare Advantage Plans in Kansas

Earlier we mentioned that you can change from Original Medicare (Part A and B) to an Advantage plan. There are multiple different periods in which you can enroll in an Advantage plan. Also, you are eligible if you live in the plan service area and are enrolled in Part A and Part B. There is only one health question about End Stage Renal Disease.

Instead of a Medigap plan being added to your Original Medicare, your Advantage plan combines Part A and Part B, along with Part D normally.

When enrolling in an Advantage plan, you will go through a private insurance company. In Kansas there are multiple insurance companies that offer Advantage plans. However, the main two types of plans in Kansas are HMOs and PPOs.

Someone who might want to consider an Advantage plan over a Medigap plan is someone who is okay to treat within a local network of doctors. We say that because Advantage plans have networks in which the patient must stay within when choosing their healthcare providers. If you were to travel outside of your network, you most likely would have to pay out-of-network prices and in some cases not be covered.
